Dedicated Leader

Your experienced, sensible, and cooperative voice in Madison.

About me

IMG_8506mv 0318.jpg

I have a strong work ethic. I’ve had a job since I was 13 and honestly I could retire right now.  However, I feel my time and passion is better spent working with and for the people of our district to be your reasonable, sensible, and cooperative voice in Madison.

I am a lifelong resident of the city of Waterloo, married with 3 adult boys & 3 beautiful grandchildren. Serving the city of Waterloo since 2008 as an Alder At-Large, in 2011 as school board member & resigned in 2019 when I was elected the 1st female Mayor, and am the only Mayor to hold regular offices hours at city hall.

I have a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and Operations Management; professional career in Purchasing and Operations management for over 27 years; Diploma in Professional Photography and ran my small photography business for 20 years, fully retired in 2021.  Working part-time since 2017 for McKay Nursery in Waterloo in Accounts Payable and Purchasing.

Getting into politics was never on my radar, just working hard and being successful. City council kind of fell into my lap during one of my college night courses, which also helped me start my own small business.

My commitment to you is this, I will listen to your needs and what’s important to you and your community

One of my first tasks as Mayor was to close down our 1st (successful) TIF and bring much needed money back into the city budget.  I also worked with my staff and purchased a subdivision in 2019 that had been undeveloped since 2004.  It sparked a housing boom in 2 other locations for a total of 57 homes, all during Covid. The prior 15 years had only 3 homes built. Unfortunately, the current state of affairs has brought building to a standstill in Waterloo, but I’m hoping to find creative ways again to continue to grow our community.

In all of my elected positions, and in my professional careers, I have always advocated for spending money wisely.  Maintaining or reducing taxes, balancing budgets and eliminate non-government related wasteful spending. But I’m not sure our spending priorities are in line at the state, and I want to find out firsthand what we’re really spending our tax dollars on.

The government’s role is to serve the needs of the citizens, ensuring a safe and clean environment, and quality education. Fire, Police and Public Works serve the public in very key and important roles and must be fully funded.

But things have changed quite a bit over the years:

  • Police Departments have been underfunded and unsupported

  • Fire & EMS services can no longer survive on volunteers

  • Schools are constantly going out for referendums

  • And our roads are not keeping pace with repairs

Case in point: Waterloo has 2 DOT projects coming in 2028 & 2031, the city portion is approximately $2 million dollars each.  What does this do for our other interior roads? Nothing.

Facebook is loaded with complaints, and I can’t argue with that.  Some of our roads are absolutely awful, but we only have so much money to deal with and so much money we can borrow. We need new formulas, we need to find better solutions for our failing aid system.

The Issues

Government’s main job is to serve the needs of the citizens, ensuring a safe and clean environment and a quality education. Personally and professionally, including as mayor, I’ve always advocated for spending money wisely. There is a need to review and prioritize how money is being utilized to maintain or lower taxes, balance the budget, provide the support you need, and eliminate wasteful  spending.

FIGHTING WASTE, FRAUD, AND ABUSE

In both my personal and professional careers, I have always been an advocate for spending money wisely and eliminating waste.

We must work to cut unnecessary bureaucracy and streamline Wisconsin’s government so it works better for its residents.

ADDRESSING RISING COSTS

As a mother and grandmother, rising costs have been front-of mind for far too long. Whether it is groceries

or the cost of childcare, making ends meet has been harder than ever. This is why I will support tax cuts that target middle class families and push back against efforts to raise your taxes. I will also support policies that reduce the cost and increase the supply

of childcare across our state.

LOOKING OUT FOR RURAL WISCONSIN

The 46th Assembly District is a unique mix of small towns, cities and villages situated between two large metropolitan areas and there is no doubt that we face a unique set of issues. I will fight for additional resources for our emergency services departments, whether they’re volunteer or full-time.

I will advocate for our local highway projects, ensuring they receive a fair share of state aid. Finally,

I will make sure our rural schools are not left behind and all students are given the opportunities to succeed.
